The Appearance: First Impressions!
What are the written as well as unwritten rules for “dressing for success”? It is like the term “business casual”, which has many definitions! Most companies have dress policies and if that is all you think you need to know–think again!
Do some imagery for a minute; close your eyes and envision a person whom you believe presents the visual image of success and professionalism. What is he or she wearing? What is the hairstyle and makeup? Now, I would never suggest we all go back to the days of all navy and black suits, but there are some basics that can trip a person (especially a woman) up. Clothes that are too tight or loose, too provocative or revealing, unpressed or rumpled, have frayed collars and cuffs, dingy white, heels that are too high and over done makeup can create the wrong image and brand for the professional. Your appearance should not be distracting nor make you feel uncomfortable! No matter your size or build, the right wardrobe paints a picture of confidence. Finding this suitable wardrobe does not mean you have to spend a fortune. You can appear neat and pulled together within your budget. And you can still create your style while conforming with the company norm.
